The Oil and Gas Faculty was among the first, which was formed in 1990 in the structure of the Atyrau Oil and Gas University and was called the Oil Faculty.

Education of the Oil and Gas Faculty Subsequently, on the basis of the oil faculty, "technological" and "economic" faculties were created, now the two leading faculties of the university, therefore the oil and gas faculty deservedly has the status of "Kara shanyrak". In the same 1990, the departments "Geology", "General Physics" were formed. In the same years, the departments "Drilling of oil and gas wells", "Development and operation of oil and gas fields" were formed.


As part of the implementation of trilingual education at the university in 2015, an English-language department with a degree in Oil and Gas was opened at the faculty. Since the 2015 academic year, the Polygon educational program has been implemented at the Atyrau Oil and Gas University. Currently, within the framework of this program, the faculty is successfully developing dual training in bachelor's specialties 5B070800 - "Oil and Gas Business" and 5B070600 - "Geology and Exploration of Mineral Deposits" together with JSC Embamunaigas, LLP Zhigermunayservice, LLP KazNIGRI. A special contribution to the implementation of dual education is made by Embamunaigas JSC, the first partner and the first enterprise through which graduates of this program were graduated. Thanks to dual training, students are provided with opportunities for obtaining theoretical education, as well as practical skills directly in production.


Within the framework of the State Program for Industrial and Innovative Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the faculty trains bachelors in the specialty 5B070800 - "Oil and Gas Business" under the educational programs: "Development and operation of oil and gas fields" and "Production and preparation of well products.".

Dean's message

The basis of the teaching staff of the oil and gas faculty is made up of full-time teachers who have a long record of academic activity, have high level of professional qualities and are able to educate students by personal example.

The teaching staff of the oil and gas faculty consists of graduates of leading oil and technical universities of Almaty, Moscow, Leningrad, Ufa, Grozny, Tashkent and others.

All teachers of the faculty have taken advanced training courses in various foreign universities: Roberto Gordon University (Aberdeen, Scotland), Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas (Moscow), Ufa State Oil Technical University, Colorado University (Denver) and Louisiana University (Alexandria) (USA), Seinajoki University (Finland), "Alstrontelecom" Almaty, foreign partners in Atyrau are also invited.

Educational programs

According to the rating of educational programs "Atameken" educational programs "Oil and Gas Business", "Geology and Exploration of Mineral Resources", "Geodesy and Cartography" took the 1st place.

Practical training and employment

Connecting faculty with industry is one of the key factors in the success of educational endeavors.
The faculty is always looking for the most effective ways to develop both the educational process and to involve themselves and students in solving specific projects arising in the oil and gas industry.

Close ties of the faculty with the leading production enterprises and companies of the region and the oblast help in the realization of actual tasks

  1. implementation of dual training;
  2. developing new educational programs and updating the content of existing ones;
  3. realization of various projects in the areas of professional activity;
  4. providing partner support for various events, contests, competitions, Olympiads, etc;
  5. providing sponsorship assistance in the renovation of the teaching and laboratory facilities of the faculty.

The implementation of the above tasks is also facilitated by close ties with graduates of previous years who successfully work in their specialties
Graduates of the faculty work in key positions of the largest production companies, occupying leading positions in domestic and foreign large enterprises of the oil and gas industry

Applied research

One of the components of the faculty activity is the participation of faculty members in the development of scientific projects, both under the MES RK and commercial research projects - these are orders-projects of both government agencies and private companies. In addition, faculty members publish the results of their research in various international rating journals recommended by CCSON MES RK, included in the Scopus and WebofScience databases, as well as participate with reports at international and national conferences.
